Bargh and colleagues’ work on the unconscious refers to developmental processes, in this regard. One way of addressing the developmental aspect of conscious vs. unconscious thought and their collaboration is to examine their development from early intuitive to later logical thought, for example, in the Neo-Piagetian perspective, as I have done (Young, 2011). In particular, I reworked the concept of different types of thought (Type/System I; conscious, slow, deliberate; Type/System II; unconscious, fast, automatic) into a Neo-Piagetian developmental framework, and the model speaks to the differences in unconscious and conscious thought processes and how they develop (see Chap. 32).
